TO: You

Nice to meet you,

Last night when I was parking my car at Blk 10 level 3 multi-storey carpark that time, I witnessed a car being badly vandalised.I was stunt by what I saw as it was so terrible of such people to vandalise other’s car. This clearly showed that these people have no respect to others'cars. Below are some pictures I have taken of the vandalised cars. All these cars are either sprayed with paint or being scratched. I sincerely hope that you can forward this email to all our neighbours to warn them that vandals are around and making trouble for us.In addition, I hope everyone can be on the lookout for each other and inform suspicious characters in our neighbourhoods. I knew a policeman called Pete who might be able to provide useful informations for all of you. Maybe you can check with him on any tips for us when parking our cars in prevention of our cars being vandalised. On the other hand, do you mind helping me check out if the crime-prevention posters I snapped last week, will be useful in helping prevent vandalism?

Jon from Blk 3, Vic Street

How to Stop Vandalism In Our Neighbourhood

CPL Lim who is a young police from the neighbourhood police post gave some tips to prevention about vandalism.

Below is the conversation between me and him:
Me : Do you mind giving me some advice on how to prevent vandalism?
CPL Lim : Sure! Why not! As I knew that vandalism in your community can be a major problem, and it should be a high concern since it is often one of the more serious crime.
Me : *Take a notebook and jot down the points*

Here are some tips to prevention about vandalism by CPL Lim :
1. Park your cars in well-led area in a designed parking places
2. Make a agreement with your neighbour so that you can watch over each others' property
3. Report suspicious activities by calling the Police

Be Alert Against Terrorism

Factors to determine if an unattended item is suspicious or not
1. Location :
- Is the establishment of the unattended item found in a sensitive or high-risked area?
- Is the item left at a spot not easily noticeable? Or was it hidden?
2. Type of Item :
- Is it a typical "Lost & Found" item?
- Is it likely to be left behind by a forgetful person?

How to determine if the item is an explosive device
- Oily stains or discolouration found on the wrapping materials
- Excessive use of securing materials such as string and adhesive tape
- Trace of unusual smells
- Clock - like ticking sound emitting from it
- Wires or aluminium foil protruding from it

What should I do to the item?
If item is non-suspicious,
- Treat it as "Lost & Found" and hand it over to the security personnel or the owner of the establishment

If item is suspicious,
- Do not touch or open it
- Inform security or the owner of the establishment immediately
- Call the police

How can I help when a search is conducted
When there is unverified security threat, the security personnel or the owner of the establishment may conduct a search of the premises without calling for evacuation.

I can help by:
- Asisst to gather your belongings to facilitate identification of suspicious item.
- Look around for unattended items; Do not touch them
- Evaluate whether the unattended items are suspicious
- Report all suspicious items to security personnel or the Police
- Take further instructions from security personnel or the Police

An Interview with an RP student

This interview was done with Ms Tan Bee Wee – a student from RP who had witnessed first-hand someone vandalising a car two months back, but was too afraid to speak up about it.

Below is a picture of how the car looks like after it had been vandalised:

This is a real life case as I actually went over to have a face to face interview with this RP student.

Below is the conversation between me and her :
Me : Do you mind giving me a brief description of the man's looks?
RP student : Erm.... I do not mind helping you
Me : *Take notebook and prepare to jot down the description*
RP student : The man I saw ..... was quite tall for a guy's height. He has black eyes, robus body with cold and dark skin and long curly hair. I can only provide all these details based on what I have recalled. In addition, I could not recall what time the car was being vandalised.
Me : Thank you for providing a brief account of the man's looks.

From the interview with Ms Tan, I can tell that she was terrified and was scared to acknowledge the incident. Further investigations will be taken into process and Ms Tan will be asked to make a trip down to the police station at a later point of time.
